the world feels very heavy right now. it’s difficult to know where to start to become more educated about how to best walk alongside those who have endured the system created to oppress them. but i believe as someone who plans to be a future doctor i know it is my responsibility to be a listener and an advocate. the world is changing, and it feels as if it has fallen on our generation to dismantle the centuries of unjust on the black community. it may also seem small to write this message on a picture about prepping for the MCAT but for myself this is my calling to become an advocate and an ally. for me being a doctor is way more about being intelligent and a diligent studier. it’s about advocating the the good of humanity. and humanity is only as strong as it’s weakest point. we must do better. we must educate ourselves. we must vote. we must keep this fire going. #mcatprep #mcatstudying #study #studygram #undergraduate #biology #chemistry #biochemistry #womeninstem #girlsinstem #stem #medicine #kaplan #womeninmedicine #undergraduateresearch #futuremedstudent #premedblogger #premed #premedprep #premedstudent #premedmotivation #premedicine #premedicalstudent
Today is all about catching up! This week was not great (so.many.tears ). I was so distracted and discouraged by everything going on in the US and in the world that I could barely get myself to finish even one task a day, let alone my entire list! But yesterday I managed to catch up on a lot of assignments and readings (it helps that I am unable to fall asleep until 3 am these days haha ). Speaking of sleep, I’m back to drinking coffee because despite giving it up for the past 6 days, there was no sleep improvement. Anyway, sorry this post is more of a ramble and not very informative. But I want to let anyone who is struggling during this time, we’re in this together and my DMs are always open 💛 P.S. s/o to everyone who sent me words of encouragement this week. It means more than you know💛 #premed #prehealth #premedblog #MCATchanges #positivity #blogger #premedblogger #healthblogger #lifestyleblogger #premed #MCAT #premedicine #futuredoctor #lifestyleblog #wellnessblog #scienceblog #science #biology #studyinspiration #inspiration #sleep #womenshealth #recipe #foodblog #mcatstudy #womeninSTEM #homeworkouts #fitness #motivation
Someone asked me how to maintain a healthy balance of friend life and academics I honestly lucked out in undergrad and fell into a group of friends who were dedicated and driven in regards to academics. Most of my Friday and Saturday nights were spent in the library, and we celebrated the weekend by ordering sushi while we studied. It was great When I transferred schools, I was nervous about making friends but knew that academics came first. So, before the semester started, I researched all the pre health organizations on campus and ended up joining one that would change my life for the better Its good to surround yourself with people who have similar goals as you. This does not mean limiting yourself to pre-meds only but rather, people who will push you to be the absolute best version of yourself. Because as the saying goes, “you are a combination of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” Despite being so blessed by the friend group I fell into during undergrad, I also lost a few along the way. Mostly because I was always studying / not socializing enough to keep those friendships nourished. That will happen. You will lose friends along the way. BUT never underestimate the power of having even just one good friend. Find a small but sturdy support system to go to in times of adversity. Because “As iron sharpens iron, so one [friend] sharpens another” – proverbs 27:17 The key to finding friends in undergrad is by putting yourself out there and finding a group though a club, academic or otherwise The key to finding good friends in undergrad is simply by being your most authentic self as “Your vibe attracts your tribe.” Life is hard. Friendships should not be. That does not mean that friendships will not have challenges, and like any other relationship they take effort. But a good friendship shouldn’t feel forced. By being your most authentic self, you will find people who love you for who you truly are. Even if that means you’ll have to skip the party [again] due to studying [more in comments]
𝐌𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐂𝐀𝐓 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞! . Happy Friday! I wanted to share what I've been doing each day to prep for the MCAT. I'm enjoying my schedule and I think having a variety of ways to practice/review content is essential. I usually start my day with Uworld and Anki then follow it with CARS and P/S, and do the chapter last. I found that when I did the chapter first, I would spend way to much time going through the chapter and feel overwhelmed with the rest of the items on my to-do list. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴/𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝘀! . 1 chapter in Kaplan book . P/S 6 pages or whole topic with KA videos . 2 CARS passages & review . Anki cards . Uworld 5 psych/soc questions, 5 gen chem, 5 biochem . Amino acids & biochem cycles practice .
My study space ✨.... no it’s not finished. I recently/finally cleaned my room and I finally feel motivated again. Moving home did not give me a lot of motivation but it did help my mental health. I am a very family oriented person and being away from my family was very hard on me. I am very blessed that I could come home and it was not such a hard transition like I know some went through. 2020 has certainly been a year to remember.
Happy Friday beautiful people! I love Friday’s. Friday is payday 😆. Haha Jk... not really. This beautiful Friday is going to be spent tackling MCAT Orgo. I don’t know about all of you. But, I like to keep everything organized & planned out - especially my study sessions. & to indulge my shopaholic nature. I always buy cute planners! The planner I’m using in 2020 is by @thedaydesigner . This is not my first planner from them & definitely not going to be my last. @blueskyplanners also has very cute planners. So far, these two are my favorites when it comes to planners. I like to spend 15-20 min of everyday creating my schedule either for the day of, or the following day with my cute planner & sparkly gold @swarovski pen. These cute tools motivate me to get up off my booty & center on what I need to do each day. Because, let’s be real. During quarantine all you want to do is eat junk & binge watch tv all day. & of course once a week, I allow myself to veg in front of the tv to unwind from my studies because self-care is everything. But getting back on grind the rest of the week is also very important. How do you motivate yourself each & every day? Let me know below! Also let me know what you’re tackling today! #flatlay #thedaydesigner #swarovski #planner #mcat #orgo #mcatorgo #mcatstudy #premed #organization #motivation #blogger #blog #fashion #fashionista #fashionblogger #premedblogger #futuredoctor #selfcare #organization #dop #doseofpretty #doseofprettyblog #dopblog #2020planner #schedule #tgif #shopaholic

𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐲! . . Hope you get to enjoy some delicious strawberries 🍓 Today, I've been working on the gen chemistry book and work for my summer classes. I'm taking microbiology and the corresponding lab and so far the material has been interesting and manageable. I'm so glad I have friends taking the course with me because we can help each other learn. It has been a bit difficult to adjust my schedule once more to accommodate for my summer classes and MCAT work but it's getting better each day. Thank you for 300 followers! ❤️ . . 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴? . . Bonne journée nationale de la pré-médecine ! . . . . Quel est votre plat préféré à grignoter pendant vos études ?
happy pre-med day ❋ this is the beautiful hospital that I intern at! i’ve been here for over a year now and i’m made so many friends and i love the staff . swipe to see a pic i snapped on my walk to the hospital
I’m back with another @mediclo scrubs pic ✌️ Although I can’t say I’ve actually been wearing scrubs and fighting COVID-19 like the selfless healthcare providers in our communities, I’m SLOWLY getting closer to the day when I can provide medical care as a physician. I’m one day away from the last exam of my first year as a medical student! And I’m ironically on Instagram when I could be studying 🙊 time flies by so quickly! It’s been getting tougher to stay indoors and study all day, but having parks, beaches, and trails open have been very encouraging lately. Don’t underestimate the power of feeling the sun on your skin! ☀️ To all those struggling as fellow extroverts being forced indoors... we got this! This won’t last forever my friends 🙏
I take pride in cleaning. & making my workspace not only aesthetically pleasing, but conducive to learning. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 ~ what do medical students do the summer after their first year of medical school? as this is the only summer break medical students will have, most students either find research, do community service, work, or relax before second year of medical school starts. overall, it really depends on what you want to do! i personally chose to do research. for now, i’ve just been relaxing and spending time with my family until my research starts! this research will be a little different in that it will be clinical research. i have a lot of basic science research experience from undergrad, so this will be a new and exciting area for me! how are you spending your summer?
Someone asked me “how to deal with a not so great grade after studying a lot” 🤔 I’ve definitely experienced this in undergrad and it can be discouraging especially when you’ve put in so much time and effort into learning, however, dwelling on the past will hinder your performance in the future. So here’s what I suggest instead 1. Be honest with yourself. Even though you studied a lot were you fully engaged? Did you give yourself enough time or did you cram a few days before? What was it that could have possibly prevented you from learning the material as well as you should? Answer these questions, and make adjustments to your future study schedule 2. Go to office hours and have an honest conversation with your professor about your struggles. They may have some advice as to how to study for the class and also can help you identify what went wrong 3. Learn from it! Like I said you can’t go back and change the past but use this as an opportunity to grow and do better. Negative thinking will only dwindle your confidence causing you to perform less than you’re able 4. Don’t compare. I have never been one to share my grades even when I do very well. I personally thing that it’s no ones business and is the cause of competitive culture in pre health majors. Unless it’s someone you really trust, don’t feel the need to share and compare your grades with others You will not be perfect 100% of the time. Give yourself enough grace to “fail forward” and use your setbacks as an opportunity to comeback even smarter and stronger than before #premed #prehealth #premedblog #MCATchanges #positivity #blogger #premedblogger #healthblogger #lifestyleblogger #premed #MCAT #premedicine #futuredoctor #lifestyleblog #wellnessblog #scienceblog #science #biology #studyinspiration #inspiration #sleep #womenshealth #recipe #foodblog #mcatstudy #womeninSTEM #homeworkouts #fitness #motivation @christinaaliang 💛
ELSIESTUDY ➡️ ELSIEMED When I started this Instagram account, it was to have a place to showcase my notes and find study inspiration. Over time, my account became more focused on my premed experience. Now that I’ve gotten into medical school (🙏🏼🙏🏼 still feeling so blessed ) I changed my username to more clearly reflect what my account is about! . On another note, I registered for some online prep courses for med school just to get me back in the mindset of studying, especially after having this nice, semester long break of working 3-4x a week and watching Netflix, reading, or honestly whatever I wanted! It was very relaxing but it can’t last forever 😢 . Finally, this photo is the iconic Cathedral of Learning on my college campus. On this campus, I’ve experienced heavy ups and downs and have met incredible people who I’m lucky to call my friends (and boyfriend! ) This chapter of my life is coming to a close, and the possibilities in my life are endless. Got SPF? I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was revamping my skin care routine, I was still in need of an SPF to add to my routine when @drmtlgy reached out and let me try and leave an honest review their sunscreen. After trying it for a few weeks I’m happy to share that I really love this sunscreen for a couple key reasons ☀️Broad Spectrum SPF 45 to protect my skin ☀️No white/grey cast left on my skin ☀️No strong “sunscreen smell” ☀️No break-outs or skin irritation Sunscreen is so important all year round, but especially now that we’re going into summer and likely going to be in more direct sunscreen, I’m really happy to have this one in my daily routine! #drmtlgy #ad
𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙. So much goes into creating your application - it is literally years in the making. Today I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who has helped me through the process of applying to medical school. I had a lot of help from my family, prehealth advisors, and my @medschoolcoach mentors, but I also got so many tips, information, and advice from this amazing medical community on Instagram. • I think it is more important now than ever to focus on premed collaboration over competition. Swipe to check out some of the women who have really inspired me personally - all of the accounts I included post information designed to help premed and medical students 💕 • I posted this picture of myself from the pre-pandemic days because I miss summers like this. I miss visiting @shoppigment , going out with friends, the carnival rides, the beach days. But this experience has also made me so grateful for everything I have ❤️ • What is one thing that you are especially grateful for today?
What quarantine has taught me As the end of May (mental health awareness month ) draws near, and as we enter what (I hope ) may be one of the last few months of quarantine, I’ve been reflecting on this strange time and all the lessons that I’ve learned I’ve never spent so much time by myself so this has been a strange yet eye opening time for me When quarantine first started I was far from my best self. I felt like I had spread myself a little too thin and was completely stressed out/burn out after graduating. But a few weeks into quarantine and a handful of therapy sessions later, I started feeling much lighter I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is this. Life is hard. Everyone is going through something whether they decide to share it or not. That being said, it’s so important to be someone who uplifts those around you and equally as important that you surround yourself with people that make you feel and act your best Life is way too short for negativity and although we’re all imperfect and will have our bad days. But after quarantine, I think it’ll be important (for me at lest ) to be sure to focus on and nurture the positive aspects in my life rather than dwelling on the negatives that are out of my control✨ Even though mental health awareness month is coming to an end, continue to have those important conversations and check in with yourself and those around you on a regular basis💛 Honorable mentions for biggest lessons: 1. It’s okay to take some alone time to work on yourself. It’s okay to re-evaluate what is serving you and whats not 2. PUT THE PHONE DOWN when you’re out with people. You never know when another pandemic will hit and that will be your only way of connecting with people. Enjoy the presence of other people 3. There is bad in the world but there is PLENTY of good as well. See the good and be the good Happy Tuesday, Everyone! 💛✨ whats something you’ve learned during this crazy time?

If it’s not girly & cute, I don’t want it 😤 Here’s just a few of my school essentials: • Binder with college ruled lined paper (I’m old school, ok. I was born in the 90s. 🤷🏻♀️ ) • 2 glittery index card holders • medium sized gray notebook that has all my premed reqs and notes so I can always reference back to it • @quayaustralia blue light blockers • AirPods + case • Hand sanitizer, obvi 😷 • My fave eraser from @daiso_usa (I’ve been using this eraser since high school! ) • Pens, Highlights, and White-Out • @doterra Citrust Twist for when I need an energy boost • 2020 planner from @bloomdailyplanners 💕 • Pack of gum • @maccosmetics pressed powder for when my tzone starts looking oily 😖 • My current fave lipstick from @patricktabeauty in She’s Independent 😉💁🏻♀️ • Lastly, my new Starbz cup from @stickerbombclub that says Dr. Corotan in a burgundy color 😍 I’m obvs not a doctor yet, but it helps to stay motivated when you see it in writing 😉 - Who else is doing summer school? Don’t you just love when classes haven’t officially started yet but you already have homework? 😂

Reviewing is EVERYTHING Saturdays full length didn’t go as well as I wanted it to but that’s okay because I have loads of time left and 8 more practice exams to go I would much rather make mistakes now so I can learn from them and do better on the next one Like they say “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results” That’s why reviewing your full lengths is so important, so that you can recognize weaknesses and implement new strategies into your study routine. I try to review mine on the same day that I took it so that my thought process during the exam is fresh in mind What keep in mind while reviewing your full length: 1.Ask yourself why you got the question wrong. What was your thought process? What was wrong with the answer you chose? What deterred you from the right one? 2.Is there a pattern/habit that you need to break? Are you getting a specific question type wrong? Are you not great at interpreting graphs or manipulating formulas? Find your weakness and focus on strengthening it 3.How were you feeling? Did you get enough sleep the night before? Did you have too much or too little caffeine? Did you have a lot of energy in the beginning and half way though start to crash? These are things to be mindful of when reviewing your test overall. Be sure to give your body the proper nutrients and enough rest for the exam. That looks different for everyone so it is best that you play around with different foods during your practice full length in order to find out what works for you If you don’t do well on one of your practice exams, don’t be discouraged. You may lose some small battles along the way, but you’ll win the war Happy studying! 💛 #premed #prehealth #premedblog #MCATchanges #positivity #blogger #premedblogger #healthblogger #lifestyleblogger #premed #MCAT #premedicine #futuredoctor #lifestyleblog #wellnessblog #scienceblog #science #biology #studyinspiration #inspiration #sleep #womenshealth #recipe #foodblog #mcatstudy #womeninSTEM #homeworkouts #fitness #motivation

Next steps: I’m taking this long weekend to get ready for the upcoming summer semester. I have to take some time to consider what the next few years of finals, MCAT, applications, interviews (god willing ) and everything that comes with it means, and adjust trajectory accordingly. I constantly see PreMed students in online groups stressing themselves out without regard to what is in front of them that day. I am equally guilty. However, my work in law and my own life offers me enough perspective to offer some advice: “It’s going to be fine” Worrying about the “A” you didn’t get or word you should have said serves little useful purpose. In spite of yourself and your overachiever ways, you are human. The only thing you can do is learn as much about yourself and the process and turn it all to your advantage. “Know thy self” is an idiot that survived the ages for a reason. Now that this is becoming more real for me, and I have to start consider how the time will effect my dog, work, life, etc I am going to keep a blog here for the “journey” mostly so I can look back in 8 - 12 years and remember it. It’ll go by way to damn fast. It won’t just be the pre-med/med school gig though, Jiu jitsu and fitness are going to be big pets of my life along the way as well and will be included. In spite of how much of a time requirement my education may be, self care comes first. Stick around 😁 #premedstudent #premedblogger #premedmotivation #premedprobs #premedical #premedicalstudent #mcatstudying #mcatpreparation #whatdayisit #whoareyou #wheresmypursetho #huskiesofinstagram

After a few months of waiting, I was accepted off the waitlist at my top choice medical school! For the past few months I haven’t had a clear idea about where I would be once medical school started. I felt awkward when people would ask where I was going to medical school because I truly didn’t know. Now I can confidently say I’m going to my top choice medical school in my hometown 20 mins away from home. Things couldn’t have worked out any more perfectly at the end of this application cycle. If you would have told me one year ago after I took my MCAT that everything would turn out okay I would have been hesitant! But one year later here we are! m e n t a l • h e a l t h . hey guys! i’m using this post to highlight two important things. many of you know, may is asian pacific american and mental health awareness month. i was inspired by @arguingformedicine to talk about this. . i grew up chinese and i’m super proud of where i came from. it’s a unique experience to be asian american, i’m partially bilingual (my cantonese is not the best ), and i get to celebrate both cultures. . but because i’m asian, there is mindset that showing emotions is “weak.” you might have heard that we never really say “i love you,” which is true, often times our parents show that in other ways. i guess one of the most harming things that i wanted to bring light to is that we aren’t encouraged to talk about our feelings or allowed to show weakness. it is perfectly acceptable to have feelings and to struggle with anxiety, depression, etc. . not everyone has mental illness, but we should all protect our mental health. mental health should not be something that we’re scared to talk about.

This is my first post of this ig. I hope this post will remind me when I am tired or out of passion for studying. This is also secret preparation too. Nobody in my family knows about this. Even my friends or my siblings. I won't tell them until I succeed. And I won't stop.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED IN RESEARCH Someone asked me how to get a research a position when you have no experience. Here are my top 4 tips on how to get your foot in the research door Develop meaningful relationships with your professors. There’s a good chance that they or someone they know is involved with a research position and is looking for assistants. If they know you well, they’ll be more willing to offer you a position. One time I asked one of my professors for a research position and it was so embarrassing because she basically said, “I don’t even know who you are” (major fail ). But her response was totally valid as she had hundreds of students, many of which were probably seeking the same opportunity Join a pre health or science based organization on campus. In my organization, there were many “hand me down” positions from recent graduates. Whenever someone from the organization graduated, they would usually refer someone from the org to be their replacement. This is one of those situations where connections really pay off Do your research on research: search different research projects going on around campus and get an understanding about what the research is about! The worst thing you can do is walk into a research interview and not have a clue about what they’re researching Cast your net wide. Once you’ve done your research, send emails to every researcher your interested in working for (even ones your not ). I think I applied to 20 research positions in undergrad and only heard back from five, so it’s better to cast your net wide I personally loved being a research assistant in undergrad. However, I know plenty of people who thought it was soooo boring. My advice is, whether your enjoy it or not, make the most of it as it is such a privilege that not every pre health student gets 💛 #premed #prehealth #premedblog #MCATchanges #positivity #researchassistant #premedblogger #healthblogger #lifestyleblogger #premed #MCAT #premedicine #futuredoctor #lifestyleblog #wellnessblog #scienceblog #science #biology #studyinspiration #inspiration #sleep #womenshealth #recipe #foodblog #mcatstudy #womeninSTEM #homeworkouts #fitness #motivation #christiansinstem

So. I love buying beauty products & make up. It is one of my fave things in the whole wide world. I believe make up can be an art form & I love taking part in it. & when you take part in it, taking care of your canvas - your face becomes super important! Last fall I tried the @laneige_us water sleeping mask sample & I fell in love with it. I ended up buying a full size right away. Sundays are for scribing 🏥📝 • • Scribing has been one of the most insightful experiences I’ve had on my journey to medical school so far. I get to see the life of a Emergency Medicine Doctor , physician assistant , and nurse practitioner. If you need shadowing hours this is one way to get them while also making some money. What are some ways you guys are getting those shadowing hours? • • • • #scammingpremed #premedlife #scribelife #premedblogger #scammingforthemd #premedstudent
MCAT practice test days are long days, but worth it. The one major thing I dread on the MCAT is all the reading( I am not a fan😒 ). So my stamina is my main point I want to work on, besides mastering content of course! What are something you guys struggle with when it comes to MCAT prep? • • • • • • #scammingpremed #premedlife #premedblogger #scammingforthemd #premedstudent #premedmotivation #futuredoctor #marriedtomedicine #blackdoctorsmatter #med #medicine #premed #mcat #mcatstudying #mcatprep #mcatmotivation
Wishing I was out getting margs, instead of social distancing. Since taking my MCAT all I’ve wanted to do is go out and have fun , but since the COVID-19 madness I have not been able to, which is a drag. But I am thankful to have taken my test before they cancelled sessions because now I’m really getting motivated for a master’s program. During this time of social distancing I plan on completing my personal statement and applications. What are some of your productive quarantine plans? • • • • #socialdistancing #scammingpremed #premedlife #premedblogger #scammingforthemd #premedstudent #premedmotivation #futuredoctor #marriedtomedicine #blackdoctorsmatter #med #medicine #premed
Taking time out on a Tuesday. As a student, I know especially as a premed student, it’s hard to not feel guilty to take time out for yourself and enjoy life. Remember your mental health is just as important as your goals. Never feel guilty for needing a YOU day. • • • • #scammingpremed #premedlife #premedblogger #scammingforthemd #premedstudent
“Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity” - Louis Pasteur 🌟. • Staying motivated as a premed can be tough! I found some really cute ideas on Pinterest to improve your motivation, and I thought I’d share the ones I used 💕 -Decorate your living/study space with things that remind you of your career goals -Plan small breaks and rewards into the end of your busy schedule - that will help you make it to the end of the to-do list -Wear jewelry that relates to your desired profession - this will prompt people to ask you about it! • And of course, drink coffee! There are so many great coffee and tea places in San Diego - swipe to see photos of my favorites! Lately I have been going to Better Buzz Coffee, Holy Matcha, and Communal Coffee ☕️

I’m really happy to share that I am CPR and First Aid Certified! 🏥❤️ this was something really important for me to do because I want to be able to help people and I didn’t want to wait until I was a doctor to do so, I learned so much in my training and I highly suggest it to everyone.
