Your body is always doing it's absolute best to keep you well, even when your doctor tells you that you aren't well! Most conditions that we call 'diseases' or 'syndromes' are actually protective responses of the body gone awry. Our internal safety systems are designed to turn on and turn off quickly. However, when an external or internal threat (like white sugar or chronic stress ) is continuously present, the protective response cannot turn off. When this happens, the response itself can become harmful to the body and contribute to disease. Take inflammation or high cholesterol, for example. SO if we want to achieve wellness, we must look for the root cause of our issue (i.e. the thing that is triggering the body's response ) and deal with that. LEMON CHIA SEED MUFFINS 🍋 1/2 cup flour 2 tbsp chia seeds 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/16 tsp salt 1/2 c unsweetened almond milk 4 eggs 2 lemons & the zest of both 2 tbsp melted coconut oil 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 3 tbsp honey 1/4 tsp vanilla extract 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a medium bowl mix together the flour, chia seeds, baking soda, and salt. 3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and almond milk then stir in the lemon juice and zest, ACV, coconut oil, honey, and vanilla. 4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until well combined. Pour into a muffin tin sprayed or lined with cups. 5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until fully cooked through. Let cool then enjoy!

Mental disorders are skyrocketing globally: between 1990 and today, people suffering from depression or anxiety increased roughly 50% (to over 600 million people ). Depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, phobias (and suicide ) keep climbing. We all know the new forces conspiring to make us more miserable: from rising global economic inequality to constant digital/work/media connection. Social media (keeping us “alone together” ) takes its terrible toll: consider a new NHS study revealing that more than one in four young women (aged 16-24–the ultimate “selfie” generation ) now have a mental health condition like depression or anxiety. And from “fake news” to our social media “bubbles”, the very idea of an agreed-upon “reality” is fast disappearing. No wonder that Oxford English Dictionary named “post-truth” the 2016 word of the year, or that the Danish wellbeing concept of “hygge”–burying oneself into cozy, nest-like environments-was runner-up. People feel crazier, sadder and angrier…and need relief. Strength in community kindness Kindness is contagious – by being kind, we also have the opportunity to impact someone else’s day. Do you learn from animals or maybe your children? 🐕 I am not sure if this might seem strange to some of you. But in full honesty I learn often from Axl. I watch him wander through a park 🌳 as he notices each and every flower. And puddle! He doesn’t give a shit what anyone else is doing or what anyone else thinks of 🐶 him. He really does often remind me of what it means to be present. When he takes the time to stretch his body. Or rest his eyes 👀 down in the middle of the day. Even his yawns look therapeutic. There’s a calmness he brings to our family and the 🕺🏻people he interacts with on the street. Unless you have a 🎾 in your hand. Then all calmness is out the window. ✨ Mindfulness✨After a two-weeks quarantine period, I went for stroll during my lunch break. It felt So amazing to be outside again, and something stroke me. I was in my neighborhood, an environment I'm very familiar with, but I looked at it with new eyes, as if I was rediscovering it 👀 There was something else I didn't realise immediately. It was the smell. The perfume of the flowers, the Indian summer and the pine trees 🌳🌸⛱️ It was intense. So intense that I paused for a moment to focus on that smell I felt truly happy as I was just enjoying the present moment. It reminded me of what our meditation class guide often like to say when speaking about mindfulness: • Do you know how many trees are in your street? 🌳 • The colour of the houses/buildings? 🏡 • The colours of the doors?🚪 I don't and I still don't know, because I'm still not mindful enough. This quarantine experience was a great reminder, among other things, of where I stand in my mindfulness journey 💫 How about you? How mindful are you throughout your day? Typically, I stray away from political commentary because I believe we all have a right to our own unique beliefs. For everyone who has seen the video, it’s horrific. I still can’t shake what I saw. As uncomfortable as it is,now is the time for people to speak their truth and use our given freedom of speech. I think it’s imperative now more than ever that we deliberate the ripple effect of our actions on generations to come. The same businesses that we are desperately trying to protect in the midst of economic crisis are the ones that are suffering from the violent acts of mobs and protests, so I’m challenging everyone to think before they act in the coming days and weeks. Our most powerful tool to help us gain control of our thoughts and our emotions is our breath. I encourage everyone to be more mindful of their breath, starting today. Are you shallow breathing through your mouth throughout the day and activating your sympathetic (fight or flight ) nervous system? Or are you taking slow and controlled breaths through your nose into your belly, activating your parasympathetic nervous system? By controlling our breath, we gain control of our mind and body, and that can give us the much needed power to not act out of our character. Quick easy lunch idea! 🍃Almost raw but not quite... just the way I like it. Always gotta have something 🔥warm to pull the rest of the crunchy guys together. Almond flour tortilla heated in a pan with a spritz of 🥑 avocado oil till crisp then topped with garlic sauce, 2 kind of hummus 🙃( #hummuslover ), shredded carrots, avocado, drizzled tahini and handful of hemp seeds. + a bed of lettuce to catch whatever falls and polish off as a salad. I'm noticing a big difference in my body composition already, and I honestly wasn't expecting it to happen this quickly. I know that I've been working out for 1 month straight...most times 6 days a week, but even still, it's amazing to see these changes already. It becomes addicting to see your hard work pay off 🙌 • I will also add that I would consider myself an amateur, a beginner a newbie to regular workouts, but that should not in anyway stop you or hold you back. I know however, how that can feel really intimidating. • The best way thru that fear is to FACE IT. I hired a trainer initially, learned how to do proper squats, came up with my own routine of what makes my body feel GREAT and strong and I whatever exercise I enjoy, because that is a huge reason as to why I'm sticking so well to this 😍 ....Because I LOVE it. I also cannot believe how much cleansing has transformed my energy, mood, my relationship with food, gotten rid of cravings, and put me in the right mindset to welcome ALL of the weightloss 🙌 • If you are struggling, reach out.
