This week my family opened the Rubell Museum in Miami. My mother, a refugee and immigrant to America, and my father, the son of a postman and a schoolteacher, dreamed the most ridiculous dream there ever was, and through unwavering commitment, crazy hard work, looking, looking, looking, and the openness to see greatness wherever and however it showed up, they built an astounding collection of contemporary art piece by piece for over 50 years. It’s my brother Jason, though, who truly transformed their dreams into the reality that exists today, with belief in the dream so deep it became his own, encyclopedic knowledge of contemporary art, true architectural vision, and the generosity to devote his extraordinary talents to the greater good. The entire team at the museum, led by Juan Valadez, have devoted decades of their lives to this endeavor, and they are our family too. It’s hard to believe it’s even real. #rubellmuseum
