Happy #FitnessFriday y’all! Some of you may have noticed I’ve been training with the MMA community lately. It’s been a fun, crazy and extremely challenging journey, and I’ve been so blessed to learn from such incredible people! Today I want to talk about one of the essential parts of MMA training, Muay Thai. Prepare to burn anywhere between 800-1000 calories per hour 🔥🔥- but don’t worry, you can do it! It’s a great way to learn to self-defense and use every part of your body in your workout (including your knees and elbows )! Need any extra convincing? Last night was surreal - Overwhelmed with pride for @tylerperry , creator of the first black-owned major film studio in our HISTORY. To have shared in this moment in some small way, standing beside the most iconic talent in celebration of his accomplishment, was an absolute honor that I will never forget. Last night Tyler dared us to dream a bigger dream for ourselves, and today I dare each of you to do the same!
Thank you to Shannon Knapp and @invictafc for graciously allowing me into your world last night. Congratulations to all the ladies who fought their hearts out. I was a little girl when I saw a woman of color on TV for the first time. It was #DiahannCarroll in “Julia,” a story of a widowed nurse and the first portrayal of a black working woman on TV. I can still feel the impact of that moment to this day. Diahann’s powerful body of work not only paved the way for me, but she is a true testament to women of color in entertainment, and her affect on this world will be felt for years to come.
Today’s #FitnessFriday is about one of the most important factors of any fitness routine - HYDRATION. We are made of 60% water, and replenishing that amount can have life changing effects on the body - weight loss, higher energy levels, better cardiovascular health, and younger looking skin. The crazy part? When you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated - it’s said that we need upwards of 64 oz. of water a day to stay hydrated and that’s NOT including if we’ve worked out. So I challenge all of us today to drink at least 8 x 8oz. glasses of water a day, EVERYDAY, until next week. It's time for #HBBooksFromBed, and I have doozy to share. I don't normally like to listen to audio books, as I just love the feeling of being snuggled in my bed with a glass of red, clinging to a good read. However, The Life Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F*uck by #SarahKnight is one I much prefer to listen to. Why? I can listen in my car, on a hike, riding my bike, grocery shoping, walking my dogs, cleaning the kitchen and just about anywhere. This tiny book packs a big important message of self love - freeing ourselves from people pleasing and the guilt of saying “NO that doesnt work for me,” doing what we want and not doing what we don't! Have a listen or a read, and say NO to what does not serve you!! ♥️
If I can state the obvious with y’all? I love the outdoors. Nature is my sanctuary - a place to clear the mind, cleanse the soul and put my priorities in place. This #SelfCareSunday, I encourage you to explore the natural world - a nature trail, your backyard, a public park - and take a moment to sync up with the what really matters. I love taking my kids on these kinds of trips, but this can also be a great opportunity to fly solo and re-connect with yourself. Where do you guys love to go for a dose of nature?? 🌲🍁🍃
